The 51st World Poker Championship (WSOP) in Las Vegas has been postponed indefinitely. Caesars Entertainment, a WSOP operator, said the move was due to a public health emergency due to COVID-19.
All US casinos were closed. The company said that they would like the WSOP to come back this year, perhaps a little later, after quarantine was lifted.
Thus, we can indicate that the world series of poker was not canceled, but postponed.
According to the plan, the poker tournament series are scheduled for the fall of 2020. The company will announce more accurate dates in the near future, depending on the distribution of COVID-19.
Last year, more than 180,000 players participated in 90 events at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. This year, the annual WSOP was due to be held from May 26 to July 15. The initial WSOP schedule included 117 events.
No matter how many tournaments can be canceled this year, the WSOP will include the World Poker Championship, a cash deposit of $ 10,000 in the Main Event. This is the most prestigious event with the richest annual prize pool in the poker calendar.
“We are committed to hosting the World Series of Poker this year, but we need extra time to continue on our traditional scale, giving priority to the welfare of our guests and staff,” said Tai Stewart, Executive Director of World Series of Poker.
WSOP.COM STILL WORKS
Stewart continued: “Meanwhile, the official WSOP competitions are expected to be held online this summer. And soon we are going to announce the details of an expanded series of tournaments that will be hosted on WSOP.com and in partnership with international operators which will allow WSOP players to take part in tournaments from their homes. ”
The WSOP site works, so poker players can keep their skills in quarantine. The online poker site shares liquidity in the following states:
Delaware
New Jersey
Nevada
The WSOP Spring Online Championships, which run until May 3, still host more than 40 tournaments. In addition, there are Sunday tournaments with a guaranteed prize of $ 100,000.
The main news is that the online WSOP series will continue, as planned, this summer. A total number of online WSOP tournaments will be held this summer is 14. The contribution range varies from 400 to 10,000 dollars.
Eldorado Resorts is still in the process of concluding a merger with Caesars Entertainment. The deal should be completed by June. Eldorado Resorts will run the new company, which will be called Caesars – without entertainment.
While Caesars has two years of Rio rental, the new company may decide to move the WSOP to another location in Las Vegas this year. Las Vegas casinos are expected to open in stages. Rio can stay closed longer than other Caesars in Las Vegas, as it is outside the Vegas Strip, but even if Rio opens, Caesars can still move the WSOP. Stay tuned for the latest developments to keep up to date with the WSOP.
