Kangwon Land will reopen after a two month closure again.
Kangwon Land is the only casino in South Korea which is serviced by the local residents, has reopened its doors again after closing for almost two month.The casino hall will operate with a limited capacity, accommodating no more than 1200 people.
Durding 2020, the establishment was closed several times. The first closure took place from 23 February to 20 July, the second one from 21 August to 12 October. Snd the latest, temporary closure was announced on December8, 2020, when South Korea raised its national alert level over the growing number of Covid-19 cases. The closure has been extended several more times, with the final date set for February 14th.
Kangwon Land has to send about half of its employees on compulsory leave. Resports speculates that it was originally unpaid leave, lower wages, offering employees 70% of their monthly base salary as ‘urgent livelihood support’. The reduced payment system was supposed to be in effect until February 1, but it has been continued in line with the closure extensions.
During the temporary closure, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of South Korea extended the license to operate the casino for another three years-from January1,2021 to December 31,2023. The license will operate under the same conditions as the previous one: the casino will operate 20 hours a day, there will be 180 gaming tables on the gaming floors (deven of them are digital). The licence also allows the casino to have 169 slot machines and 1191 other electronic games.
